Oh oh,
The arctic ice is melting and (seemingly stangely) the level of the arctic ocean is going down!?!
This seems strange because many other ocean levels are going up.
There are lots of scientists trying to explain this one.
They say that there are a lot of factors at play. They note salinity change, changing densities, cooler water causing current change, etc.
The one thing that I havn't heard is that gravity is more at the poles of the Earth than the Equator.
I know that ice is less dense than water (even more, (less dense) than salty water.)
Therefore, I wonder if, because the Earth is spinning, that the denser water would acumulate nearer to the equator, leaving the lighter water at the poles.
This seems to be happening.
