What if...?
Q: What is the purpose of life?
A: To reproduce and keep going, inadvertently developing itself to better utilize its present resources.
If this is the only rule, then maybe our purpose is to instill life into silicon.
Think about it, if we are carbon based life forms, and the planet that we evolved on is less than 1% carbon, wouldn't it be beneficial for us, (life), to use silicon to continue the journey. After all, the world is made up of about 25% silicon and it would be an asset to us, (life) to build upon the greater abundance of resourse, as we always have in the passed.
